Please stop ripping open my mail (abbi’s too). It makes me think you’re trying to steal things that people send to me.
Half-Priced Books
is the cheapest book store i’ve found. The used fiction section is half off the publisher’s price, and you can usually find a copy of what you’re looking for that was published in 1960 at 60 cents. (i love the covers that Signet Classics made in the 60’s, they crack me up. i bought two yesterday.) Yesterday, i picked up these additions to my library:
The Log From the...
Congrats are in Order
1. To Christian on his becoming an Associate Producer for Gangland
2. To my best friend, Kathleen, on officially deciding to move to Chicago in the spring. In 6 months, after 23 years, we will finally live in the same city, this is fantastic.
Alice in Wonderland
It’s strange how the union of two things i feel only moderate about (Tim Burton and Alice in Wonderland) have me really excited for 2010. Alice in Wonderland wasn’t my least favorite Disney cartoon, but it was near the bottom of the list. It always creeped me out when i was little. I would say that i like most of Tim Burton’s movies, but i’m in no way a follower. So...
Adventures at Rare-Medium-Well Done Books
I initially decided i wanted to shoot in this book store months ago and avoided going there because i didn’t want to hear him tell me no. I finally made it there today after a lot of searching (turns out it is located on Clark and not Broadway.) And it seems that everything is going to turn out ok. While i was there this girl and i bonded after both us kept knocking over stacks of books...

Socks, when do you escape me?
This isn’t something that generally comes up in conversation, so i don’t have any proof to offer, but i’m going to go ahead and say that i am more acutely aware than most of where my socks are.
This is because no matter how carefully i take a single a pair out of my drawer, wear them, place them in my laundry basket, check around my laundry basket before i go to do the laundry...
i smell a whoppertunity.

20. The Illustrated A Brief History of Time by...
I’m not sure why I love reading science and physics books. i usually get frustrated at the overload of information and give up half-way through. And a few days afterwards I forget most of the details and just have a vague idea of things that blew my mind. This book was no different except that i read it all the way through and i think it did a better job than most at explaining the...

fiftywords:
The streetlights looked ominous, they with their gnarled latticework and bright lights, casting deep shadows. He fell across the city in loping lines, looking in every pocket of darkness, every rain-stained window, every stretch of battered building blocks. Stay right where you are, he’d told her. I’ll be right back.

19. Woe is I: The Grammarphobe's Guide to Better...
After having a few grammar errors pointed out to me (and being rather anal about proper English myself) I decided to brush up a bit on the rules and details of writing and speaking. My grandfather gave me this book when i was about 12; i tried to convince him that ain’t was a word. Don’t worry she stresses in this book that it is not, “It’s not ok and it will never be ok....

Afterward
This, in no way, is really about A connecticut yankee in King Arthur’s Court, but more about how i feel about King Arthur and the surrounding characters. I have a more than average interest in them. I blame watching The Sword and the Stone, Camelot and Merlin (the made for TV movie) incessantly at different points in my childhood/young adult life. Mark Twain subtly refers to instances...
18. A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court...
I had never read anything by Mark Twain before so i wasn’t sure what to expect. I looved this book. Amazing, amazing book looking at whether things in the 6th century are really that different from today (well technically the 19th century). Really clever. Hank Morgan gets knocked out and wakes up in the time of King Arthur and proceeds to give the people the advancements of the future to...
